Qibla Degrees Explained
Qibla degrees describe a clockwise turn from true north at your location. The number is an angle, not a distance or a compass error.
The 360-degree scale
North is 0° or 360°, east is 90°, south is 180° and west is 270°. Values between them describe the exact angle. A bearing of 135° is south-east; 225° is south-west.
Why nearby cities differ
Every starting coordinate creates its own great-circle route to the Kaaba. Nearby cities may share a broad compass direction while differing by a degree or more.
Why a flat map can look surprising
The shortest route on a sphere is a great-circle path. Map projections distort that curved surface, so the initial direction may not resemble a straight visual line on a world map.
