How QiblaPoint
finds the Qibla.
The direction is calculated from your coordinates to the Kaaba at 21.422487° N, 39.826206° E using an initial great-circle bearing.
The calculation
On a spherical Earth, the shortest route between two places follows a great circle. We calculate the initial bearing at your position—the direction you should face locally—rather than drawing a visually straight line on a flat map.
Bearing versus phone compass
The calculated bearing is stable; your phone heading may not be. Magnetic cases, speakers, vehicles, reinforced concrete and nearby electronics can all disturb the sensor. Move away from interference, hold the device flat and calibrate it with a slow figure-eight motion.
True north and magnetic north
The bearing is expressed clockwise from true north. Mobile operating systems normally compensate their heading, but device behaviour varies. For important use, compare the live arrow with the map and a known physical direction.
Islamic practice does not require impossible geometric perfection. If you are uncertain, make a sincere effort using the best information available and consult a knowledgeable local authority for religious guidance.
