How to Find Qibla Without a Compass
You do not need a magnetic compass to establish a useful Qibla direction. A calculated map bearing and a visible landmark are often the clearest combination.
Use a map and landmark
Open the Qibla finder for your position and compare its direction with streets, walls or another visible feature on the map. Choose a distant landmark along that line and face it.
Use established local direction
A nearby mosque or prayer room normally has an established mihrab or marked prayer line. This is a useful local reference, especially when device sensors are unreliable.
Use the Sun carefully
The Sun can help establish compass directions when its position is known for the correct date, time and location, but the simple claim that it always rises due east is inaccurate outside the equinoxes. Use an astronomical direction tool rather than guessing from sunrise or sunset.
Use the live Qibla finder for your exact position, or choose a published bearing from the city directory.
